We Just Won’t Quit

December 30, 2010

It’s year end already; and if you are like me you are wondering what exactly did I make of 2010?

This year brought trials and triumphs as the economy remained stubbornly in a prolonged plunge. Month after month we held our collective breath waiting for recovery only to land on the same side of the recession that wouldn’t retreat. The economy has taken on a life of its own and we’re stuck in time… like  Bill Murray’s character Phil in Ground Hog Day.

It’s  become pretty clear it doesn’t matter much what we do to make things move along, the rules are changing. New variables make predictions virtually impossible.

But, we Americans aren’t quitters, now are we? We’re an optimistic bunch that rolls with the punches, we keep our upper lip stiff and when the going gets tough…well you know, the tough get going. And we’re not easily intimidated. If you tell us we can’t we find a way.

And, well, that’s the way it ought to be. In the spirit of Horacio Alger, we just keep on keeping on. Mostly because we have tasted the good life and it’s worth fighting for.  So, there 2011. We’re not afraid of you. Bring it on.
